He clearly loves what he does and cares about making sure we walk away prepared to defend ourselves. This class isn’t just for women. Even men could benefit from learning some of the valuable techniques taught in the class. He goes over many great ways to break your fall, get out of many different types of holds, and even some basic striking skills that you would need. “Me, my daughters and a friend of mine completed the four week violence prevention training. It was intense. It pushed us out of our comfort zone. I held back tears many times. Last night all I thought was: There is no way I am letting him tackle me, but when he did, I fought my way out. My girls were so powerful it shocked the coaches. I know who I want backing me up when things go down. But it’s more than learning techniques; it’s mental. We left last night knowing that if we can take on our 260lb coach-we got this! He looks intimidating but is the greatest guy. My youngest feels so amazing after last night she already wants to do the next session. If you are on Oahu, I highly suggest doing this. It was one of those life-changing things.”

“Taking the self-defense class through the Azariah May Academy was the best possible use of my time and money. This course was eye opening, informative and empowering. The skills taught are practical and effective defense strategies. The coaches make the scenarios as realistic as possible to mimic an actual attack. “I took the 4 week course with my soon to be high school aged son. I wanted him to gain the knowledge of how to defend himself, as well as see what some women have to deal with. I am often alone with my 3 kids and wanted to be prepared in the unfortunate event I have to defend myself or my children. The course was amazing. “As a grandma, I honestly didn’t expect to get much out of the class. I didn’t feel confident that I could learn how to defend myself within four weeks. When I heard that I’d have to ‘fight for my life’ on the last night, I was scared and didn’t think I could do it. 

When I was 21, I was sexually assaulted. Since then, I lived in fear for more than half my life (26 years). The physical trauma is one thing, but the emotional trauma affects you in ways I can’t even explain! I blamed myself for it and held a lot of unprocessed emotions (lots of baggage). 

By the end of the fourth and final session, I did it! Despite the fears and doubts, I fought for my life. I felt like a new person! I felt like I TOOK my power back. I felt more confident and empowered than ever!
